Werewolf Syndrome

Supatra Sasuphan suffers from Werewolf Syndrome

Weird Fact: There are 50 confirmed cases of Werewolf Syndrome since the Middle Ages.

The movie Teenwolf may just have been inspired by a real-life condition called Ambras Syndrome (aka Hypertrichosis).

The rare genetic fault causes an excessive amount of hair to grow on the body.

Thai schoolgirl, Supatra Sasuphan, now holds the Guinness World Record for “World’s Hairiest Girl”. Her condition is so rare that only 50 cases have been documented since the Middle Ages.

Supatra has thick hair growing over her face, ears, arms, legs and back. She has been teased her whole life by other kids who call her “monkey face” and “wolf girl”.

Laser treatment has failed to stop the hair growth – but her family holds hope for a future cure. In the meantime, she’s pretty happy with her World Record status and is now a popular community figure.

“A lot of people have to do a lot to get in,” she said. “All I did was answer a few questions and then they gave it to me.”
